3CX WebClient & Mobile App: Sending and Receiving SMS Instructions
Overview
These instructions explain how to send, receive, and manage SMS messages using 3CX on both the WebClient and the Mobile App (Android / iPhone).
Important: All mobile numbers must be in E.164 format (international format)
Accessing 3CX WebClient
Open the 3CX WebClient:
Log in using:
Your Union phone extension (Do not use your union email, you will get an error on login)
Your 3CX Password
3CX WebClient – Sending an SMS
In the WebClient, go to the Chat page.
Click the Plus (+) icon.
Select Send SMS.
On the New Conversation screen:
Enter a contact name or mobile number.
The mobile number must be in E.164 format (e.g. +12345678901).
If the number is not in the correct format, 3CX will prompt you to correct it.
Select the contact or confirm the corrected number.
Click Start Chat.
Type your message in the Say Something text box.
Press Enter or click Send.
A tick next to the message confirms the SMS was successfully sent.
3CX WebClient – Receiving & Replying to SMS
When a new SMS is received, a pop-up notification appears.
You can either:
Ignore it (the message will appear later in the Chat list), or
Click Reply to respond immediately.
SMS Conversation Options
Within an SMS conversation window, you can:
Call: Call the sender directly.
Transfer: Transfers the SMS conversation to another user (Option is currently bugged, do not use)
Dealt With: Marks the SMS as handled and archives it.
Archive: Archives the SMS (via More Options).
Close: Closes the conversation and returns it to the Chat list.
Reply: Type your message in the Say Something box and press Enter
3CX Mobile App (Android / iPhone) – Sending an SMS
Open the 3CX Mobile App.
Tap the Chat icon.
Tap the Plus (+) icon.
Select SMS.
In the Type a name or phone number field:
Enter a mobile number in E.164 format (e.g. +12345678901), or
Search for a contact by name.
If the contact number is not in E.164 format, the app will prompt you to correct it.
Once a valid number or contact is selected, the SMS conversation opens.
Type your message and tap Send.
A tick indicates the SMS has been successfully sent.
3CX Mobile App – Receiving & Replying to SMS
New SMS messages appear as push notifications on your phone.
You can choose to:
Reply, or
Mark as Read.
When replying:
You are taken to the SMS conversation screen.
Type your message in the text box.
Tap Send.
SMS Indicators
A number badge on the Chat icon indicates unread messages.
Unread SMS conversations are also marked within the Chat list.
Tips & Best Practices
Always verify mobile numbers are saved in E.164 format to avoid delivery issues.
